OPW Engineered Systems has provided innovative solutions for some of the most challenging liquid handling applications to meet today's bulk loading and unloading requirements. Whether your application involves tank trucks, rail cars, or drums, we can work with you to develop the right equipment for your application. A wide array of standard loading systems is also available from stock.
From top and bottom loading arms to sight flow indicators and pressure sensors and from cam and groove quick disconnect fittings to dry disconnect quick disconnect fittings. A full line of standard and custom loading and unloading systems to dry disconnect fittings to keep your hazardous liquid contained in the lines. Providing superior, cost-effective solutions for challenging liquid handling applications.

Top Loading Vapor Recovery Arms
Many chemicals and petroleum products have traditionally been top loaded through open domes on tank trucks and rail cars. However, with growing emphasis on worker safety, environmental concerns, and recent major revisions to the Clean Air Act, an increasing number of bulk loading operations now need to be equipped for vapor recovery.

Vapor recovery systems consist of two flow passage lines, one to convey the product and the other to recover and transfer the product vapors. Separate product and vapor arms can be installed at the loading rack but systems that incorporate the product and vapor lines into a single system are preferred because both connections can then be conveniently moved out to the car simultaneously. Two basic designs with many variations are available.
Bottom Loaders
Bottom loading systems offer numerous benefits over conventional top loaders. Safety is the prime advantage since the operator remains on the ground, not on top of the truck where falls are a common threat. Bottom loading connections are made more quickly so overall loading time is reduced.
Bottom loading creates less turbulence in the tank, reducing the danger of generating static electricity. Bottom loading not only reduces vapors which can be an environmental hazard, but this system can also be easily adapted to fully recover vapors displaced during loading.
Speed is a key advantage of bottom loading because tanks can be filled faster and a number of compartments can be loaded simultaneously. Bottom loading islands are simpler and cheaper to build than top loading racks. Maintenance time is also reduced. You can realize more savings because you'll safely load more material in a shorter time with less spillage and vapor loss.
OPW offers a complete line of equipment for efficiently bottom loading and unloading petroleum products, chemicals, and liquefied gases.
Applications
Bulk plants and petroleum terminals.
Recommended when servicing both sides of a loading island.
Unsupported Boom Type Bottom Loader
Applications
"The Railcar Bottom Unloader"
Recommended when cross-over is not required and when loading arm height is restricted.
Dry-disconnect couplers
Dry-disconnect couplers are used to prevent excess spillage. They protect people and property from dangerous and costly exposure by keeping hazardous liquids and vapors in-line and out of the environment.
OPW Engineered Systems (OPW) introduced the KAMVALOK® in 1960. Today's state of the art Kamvalok® dry-disconnect products continue to be the standard of the industry. If anything more than a few drops of spillage is unacceptable, then OPW's Kamvalok® products are the solution.
To provide the ultimate in performance as well as personnel and
environmental safety, OPW introduced the DRYLOK™ dry-disconnect coupling
in 1995.
Dry-disconnect couplings are used at liquid transfer points where
you do not want product loss. Using Dry-disconnect couplings will reduce
the hazards typically found when handling/processing a corrosive, toxic,
caustic, or otherwise harmful product. If your product is a VOC (Volatile
Organic Compound) that has a high vapor pressure and tends to evaporate
quickly, you'll want to use dry-disconnect couplers to keep the product
in-line and out of the air. OPW's Kamvalok® and Drylok™ products will
contain Fugitive Emissions, transfer VOC's without product or vapor loss,
help keep employees out of harm's way, and further the efforts of
Responsible Environmental Management.
BREAKAWAY COUPLERS: Safety Breakaway
The new OPW safety breakaway coupling is designed specifically to provide the ultimate safety in the transfer of hazardous materials such as LPG, LNG, acids, solvents, petrochemicals, gasses and other toxic liquids. With an innovative double-poppet design, this new breakaway coupling provides protection against potential catastrophic damage associated with drive/pull away incidents.
High Performance/High Flow
The patented OPW breakaway
utilizes a straight-line design resulting in maximum fluid transfer
performance. With minimal restriction or pressure drop in the easy-flow
interior, this coupling is ideal for high-flow line
applications.
Drive/Pull Away Safety
For hose or loading arm
applications, the OPW breakaway is designed to separate at any angle when
subjected to a designated pull force. In the event of separation, its
patented double-poppet valves seat automatically to stop the flow of
liquid, on both ends, limiting spillage while protecting equipment and
personnel.
Durable/Reusable
This durable, compact coupling can
absorb the effects of normal line shock while protecting the system from
external overload. Shear bolts can be supplied in a variety of sizes and
materials to meet specific pressure and load requirements. With the use of
a rebuild kit, the coupling, upon separation, can be reset and returned to
operation.
Available in 2", the breakaway is supplied standard in 316L stainless steel. It can also be specified in Alloy 20 and Hastolloy C – with end connections NPT, BSP,ASME flanged and Buttweld. High Performance/High Flow Durable/Reusable
